Our Origin Story: Inspired by a Sister's Legacy

The name ‘Sestra’ means Sister in Croatian, and it holds deep personal significance for us. It pays tribute to our Managing Director Sophie’s late sister, Vanessa Juresic, who tragically lost her life to Triple Negative Breast Cancer at the young age of 36 in 2018. Vanessa’s parting words in her inspiring 'Last Letter' have resonated with many around the world and form the foundational principles of Sestra People's mission, vision, and core values.


Sestra People's Pink Promise: In honour of Vanessa, we are committed to making a tangible difference. We proudly donate up to 5% of every permanent placement fee or project of work to the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, directly funding critical Triple Negative Breast Cancer Research.
